Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States.

There is certain to be an abundance of food in many homes around the country. There is also certain to be quite a few million people without a Thanksgiving meal.Yes, in the richest country in the world, we have millions who are hungry, homeless, alone, sick, and hopeless.

How do we reach out to them? Help them? Whose responsibility is it to help them? To make their lives whole and self-sufficient again. How do we end hunger, homelessness, hopelessness in the US and the world?

This is a big job. The socio-economic ramifications are too big for a mere person to grapple with.

Here are two simple suggestions:
1. Find a hungry or homeless person and give them a meal.
2. Do not waste food. Do not throw out food. Do not over eat.

The slices of bread, the bowl of beans, and the pot of rice that you threw out might have saved some hungry person’s life in Mali, Rwanda, Bangladesh, Haiti, or at the moment the Philippines.

We are known as the throw-away nation. On Thanksgiving Day, the food that we will throw out could probably feed 320 million people around the world.

On Thanksgiving Day, let’s aim to feed one hungry person. If everybody with food feed one hungry person, who knows, the giver may change life expectations for the hungry, the homeless, the helpless and the hopeless.

One to One. One person with food gives to one person without food. One to One.

Thank God for our food.
