Congress has been debating the Immigration Bill for years now.IMG_0491 The President orders the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants. Somebody named bigot Sessions vowed last year (2014) to debate the bill to death.

Is this issue about the President, the Democrats, the Republicans or 11 million people living in limbo and treated like criminals? They work and pay taxes but get no benefits in return. Some of them have lived in the US for over 20 years; their children know no other home.

If the white law-makers in Congress were to trace their ancestry they might find a few jail birds among their grandfathers.

The Brits used to empty their jails, load the criminals on ships and post them to the new colonies – America and Australia. Perhaps bigot Sessions’ ancestors were on one of those ships.DSC02822

Now we do not have that kind of immigrant in the US. However they landed on US soil, their desire is to live in these United States legally, and work for their American dream. So far they are living the American nightmare!

This country was built on the backs of immigrants. Chinese, Spanish … their blood, sweat and cheap labour … ask Cesar Chavez. He fought for their rights.DSCN7910

Every transplanted American citizen can trace his blood line to a foreign land. Well, what is the problem with bigot Session and his white supremacist friends?

This land belongs to the Natives. The Tribes. All the rest of us are guests or immigrants. The Natives and this land welcomed us and gave us opportunities beyond our wildest dreams. Why can’t we share with those 11 million people?

Here is why we can’t share. flagPeople like bigot Sessions have two goals. One is a President, who in their eyes must fail, and the other is to prevent 11 million people from becoming voters – just in case they decide to vote for the other party.

The white supremacists are intolerant of a vast majority of the people in this country. Right now Muslims are at the top of the list. We can add Jews, Blacks and immigrants. At least these the journeygroups are not jail birds or criminals like those who landed 300 years ago.

Oh! And the Natives on whose land we are trespassing are still fighting for the rights of their own land.

(Sorry it took so long to complete this story.)

abingon-thames-side-2 In order to understand how Panamanian policies oppress its black citizens one must go back in history.

In 1903 when the Americans began building the Panama Canal they needed cheap, strong labourers who could endure long hours and produce upon demand. The Americans went to Barbados and recruited 23,000 black men. These “slaves” were paid 10 cents per hour for a 10 hour day. A day’s wages were $1.00 per day and $6.00 per week for a six-day week.

When the Canal was completed in 1914 some of these workers stayed in Panama, some died, and some returned to Barbados.DSC03525-B

Those that remained in Panama settled in Colon.

Fast forward to 2015. Today, descendants of those black people who built the Panama Canal live in a slum called Colon. The Panama Canal brings in an annual income of $4 billion per year. The money is used to build a wealthy, healthy Panama for its chosen citizens. The black men who built the Panama Canal with blood, sweat, tears, and death, are forgotten.DSC02822

The reason this Colon Slum exists is because this is prime real estate on the Atlantic coast and developers want this land for more sky-scrapers, shopping malls, luxury condos, and tourist money.

The government policy is to slowly push the black people out. If nothing is done to improve their quality of life they might just leave. Except they have nowhere to go. No water, electric, health care, education for the kids, no jobs for the adults and they die or leave.IMG_2682

The government placates them with free water and electric because the government does not want an uprising or a riot on its hand.

These black souls built the Panama Canal that brings in $4 billion annually but they are not allowed to enjoy the wealth.

How about the Americans who enslaved them and made money on the Panama Canal for 100 years? Don’t they have a responsibility to them? We Americans spread oppression and exploitation and shun our responsibilities. We love to use and abuse.2013-01-28_09-16-34_256

Somebody, Americans and Panamanians, owes the black people of Panama a lot of respect, and especially a lot of money. It’s time to pay up. Black lives matter – in Panama too.

Incidentally, the Barbadian Prime Minister –Mr. Freundel Stuart – was in Panama on May 5, 2015 to “strengthen cultural ties” with Panama. The slums of Colon and the dilemma of the Barbadian slaves who built the Canal were not discussed.

The story of Panama is an admirable one.DSC03525-B

A visitor to Panama is quite impressed with the visible signs of prosperity. Panama City boasts sky-scrapers, luxury condos, seventy banks, malls peddling designer clothes and accessories, and new construction everywhere.

AgreementIn 1999 the Americans returned the Panama Canal to Panama and the Canal brings in an annual income of at least 4 billion dollar which is great for the local economy.

Like any other country in the world (including the US) the leaders and politicians in Panama are crooks, thieves and corrupt. They steal as much as they can and then face prison or exile.

On the other hand, a visitor driving around Panama is quite shocked, when without warning, she stumbles into Colon. Colon is the slum of all slums.help

At ten o’clock on a Monday morning children in need or a bath and clean clothes are playing in the streets instead of being in school. Men are sitting on the side-walks and in the parks playing cards or entertaining themselves instead of being at work.

They live in shacks boarded up with bits and pieces of cardboard, zinc sheets or plywood. IMG_2682They have no money for water and electricity, so the government allows them to “steal” these necessities. The illegal water pipes and electric wires are visible from the streets for anyone to see. How and where they get food is anyone’s guess? Clothes? Health care?

These are the two Panamas. Visitors are usually driven around Colon, not through Colon.IMG_0318 For example, on the Atlantic side of Panama, steamship passengers are driven around Colon but not through the slums of Colon.

The residents of this slum in Panama are BLACK.

Next – the reason this slum exist!

When one arrives in Panama City – the capital – one sees a progressive “country” with a well-to-do middle class. They shop in malls with all designer brand names. The restaurants are mouth-watering.

After a few days of sky-scrapers, modern condos and high-end life styles one drives out to the darker side of Panama. It is called Colon.

The population of Colon is mostly Black. These Black people are the remnants of the Panama Canal and cheap labour. The Americans brought about 23,000 of them from Barbados to build the Canal. That was in 1903-1904. (To be continued.)

Today the descendants of those Barbadians (cheap labour) live without water or electricity. They are allowed to steal electricity and water. The electric wires and water pipes running into their apartments are visible from the streets. The Panamanian government allows them to steal water and electricity.

How could this be? Black lives matter is the new slogan in America. Perhaps it has not reached Panama yet. Next – the reason this slum exist!

Control the media, Control the population. What happened to the free press?ttronslien-8953 To freedom of speech? To journalists and reporters rights to report and record the crimes of politicians?

What happened to the pen is mightier than the sword? Or words are better than bullets?

Some newspapers in the US barely mentioned the Israeli invasion of Gaza or the Chelsea Manning trial. Why not?f2-DSCN2702

One that did mention the Gaza Holocaust – The NY Times – was so biased that its coverage was more propaganda than truth. The Times coverage was so nauseating that I cancelled my subscription indefinitely.

When one reads the NY Times and Newsday in the morning and must turn to BBC and Al Jazeera in the evening for the facts, the truth in Gaza and the Manning case, then it is time to cancel the subscription. Is it better for the Times to print propaganda or for Newsday to ignore the crisis in Gaza?DSC_6745

If the people of the US were given the facts about Gaza – no water, no electric, no medicine, schools and hospitals bombed, how would they react? Shouldn’t they know the truth?

Where is the outrage in the US about these atrocities? In other countries there were marches and protests. Bishop Desmond Tutu among others protested. Why not a word of protest in the US?DSC_5769

Americans are so conditioned to sit in front of the TV and laugh the night away that sometimes they are on another planet.

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERASo far social media have added to their entertainment, but not to their body of knowledge. However, social media brought down many governments and caused great trouble in other parts of the world.

Our time is coming.

Did I really vote for that – ? – TWICE?women

TWICE? He should send me to Guantanamo and have me tortured for my stupidity!

Here is a man of war, a bankers’ friend, a WMD friend, a drone friend and a foe of women and children. What has this president done for poor people?

President Obama won’t have any difficulty finding a profitable job in two years. Any bank in the world would love to give him work. MS-C should hire him with a starting bonus of at least 20 million. Or the IMF could stick-boy-and-girldo with a man of his caliber. Or the World Bank! A man who knows how to rob the poor and make the banks profitable is a gift.

Imagine if he was World Bank or IMF and Haiti came to him for help. Boy, they would be droned.

A step and a leap from the White House to the Green Hou$e.DSC_5394

And then there are all his other White House crimes. Killing and droning innocent women and children. Any man who would declare his intensions of war while accepting a Nobel Peace Prize had no peaceful intentions.ttronslien-8953

What has he done for immigrants? Procrastination! After all the immigrants and minorities who voted for him, he turned a cold boneless back on them. As “deportation consultant” he can quickly clean up America of unwanted immigrants. What about his own immigrant family from Kenya. One reads about them often in the newspaper. Shouldn’t the daughters know them?

Well anyway, two more years of war, droning, deportation, torture and rick bank$ is a long time.

Twenty years from now when the Obama daughters are finished with university and settled in a mansion somewhere they may want to read papa’s White House Legacy.ttronslien-8953

Let’s look at what they might be discovering:

President Obama deported more immigrants than any other president.

President Obama jailed more journalists & reporters than all other US presidents combined.

President Obama plunged into more wars than any other modern president.H13-22 Necrosis

President Obama droned millions of women and children.

President Obama bailed out banks and increased homelessness in the US.

President Obama rewrote the First Amendment into the National Surveillance Amendment.

President Obama lost his back-bone on his way to the White House.

President Obama hated the people in the Middle East.2013-01-28_09-16-34_256

President Obama had not the courage of his conviction (if he had any).

President Obama paid lip service to global warming.

President Obama turned his back on his Kenyan family.

President Obama made America the first democratic police state.

President Obama spent more money on wars than curing the ills of the poor.

President Obama was the man of hope and peace who mutated into a vegetable.

President Obama made campaign promises which he forgot on election night.

President Obama believed in war, torture and Guantanamo.DSC02722

Twenty years from now the Obama daughters will have the critical / analytical skills to give a thoughtful, perhaps unbiased, perusal of papa’s great contributions to this nation and the world, to the banks and the poor. They will also be living in the world he messed up.
